Lovely spacious property and facilities, great for families!
Five Stars

The photos don't really show the spacious nature of the property and grounds. We were two families staying together in the Beatrice House property, including 3 boys and a baby and there was plenty of space in the open plan downstairs for them to run around and not feel like we were on top of each other. All the bedrooms are a really good size and we loved that they all had their own bathrooms. Loved having a pool and gym on site and the kids loved the play area. Well kept property and well stocked kitchen. Lovely, spacious grounds and you really felt you were in the country and away for it all. We will definitely be back!

Just back from a lovely weeks break staying in Beatrice House at The Victorian Barn. Wonderful place; peaceful and tranquil whilst combining plenty of things for the children to do. Swimming pool was lovely and clean and a welcome pastime for a rainy day! Thank you Penny (not forgetting Katy and Jazz!) for making our stay so lovely. Would definitely recommend this place. We will be back soon!x

Dear Penny and Claire,

Thank you for your email regarding our recent stay. With reference to that I can say that, speaking for the whole party, we had a most enjoyable and memorable time and would not hesitate in recommending The Victorian Barn for either a short or prolonged stay.

We were a party of 10 ...6 adults and 4 children ( aged 7 to 14 ) and were delighted with the spaciousness of the Victoria / Albert Suite together with the equipment supplied and the other facilities namely swimming pool , games room and WiFi access. It says a lot when there was not one dissenting voice in our party!! The staff were welcoming, friendly and informative. The Dorset countryside speaks for itself and the quiet location made for a nice relaxing stay.

FANTASTIC LONG WEEK-END BREAK FOR 13 OF US

We wanted somewhere where 13 family members could celebrate a diamond wedding anniversary. Jasmine and Plumtree cottages, at the The Victorian Barn were ideal, clean spacious with plenty of amenities to keep us all occupied. a few of the guys went fishing on the lakes and thoroughly enjoyed a long and educational chat with the baliff. while the rest of us went out to a local craft show. we made full use of the games room, sauna, hot tubs and swimming pool as well as a local walk.
The staff were really helpful from the initial enquiry to our departure. a really nice touch was some bubbly and a card for our parents.
We had a range of ages staying from 7 -84 and it was enjoyed by all. From Debbie and family

The Victoria Barn is probably one of the most beautiful but remote places we have ever stayed at. Blandford Forum is just under 3 hours from London, but it is the last hour of the drive that is through single lane, un-named country roads... all we can say is thank goodness for SatNavs and Google Maps! The nearest town is Sturminister Newton which has a minimarket, newsagent, bank and a selection of restaurants. I had remembered to do our shopping for the week on-line before we left so Monday morning everything delivered to our door which is something I would recommend to all.

The Victoria Barn consists of 8 properties all of which have newly been converted. The rooms are bright and spacious and have large kitchens and all rooms are en-suite, with either a shower or bathtub. Outside there"™s a playground with a swing, slide, climbing frame and best of all a supersized trampoline which the grown-ups and kids alike loved. The swimming pool was also clean and lovely and warm.

The Barn is set in a beautiful working beef farm with the Hills on one side, a forest on the other and 3 small fishing lakes. It truly is a peaceful place to wind away a week.  The outdoor play area is great with smaller slides, trampolines, and a push along car for toddlers.

Days out
Inevitably, when you stay somewhere so remote it seems that all days out were a minimum of 30 minutes drive away. Still we took a day trip to Swanage and rode on their steam train which went past the hugely impressive Corfe Castle.  Another day saw us spend the afternoon in Bournemouth which the kids loved and despite it being a little chilly, a round of yummy chips later we all were smiling. In hind sight, we should have got to Bournemouth earlier and visited the Aquarium which is located right by the sea. On our penultimate day, we drove to Lulworth Cove, which admittedly was one of the most beautiful sights I have seen in a long time. The tiny beach is all pebbles, but the views out to sea were stunning. As we all sat down to enjoy the sandwiches that the dads had gone to buy, the kids ran around and had fun rolling down the hill. We had hoped to stop by Lulworth Castle, which had an outdoor play area, but was closed to the public due to a wedding. Still it looked like a lovely place to spend an afternoon and kids under 4 are free. But, the best trip we took had to be when we went to East Farm in Winterborne Whitechurch, where we indulged in the best scones and homemade cakes.  The kids milkshake had to be the creamiest ever and in the warm sunshine this was a real gem and delight.  Even my 2 year old declared that he "˜really loved this tea-party"™. All in all, we had a wonderful week away.

The Victoria Barn was certainly a special place to visit and we had a lovely week away.

We spent a lovely week at the Barns and thoroughly enjoyed the location. As a large family gathering of 3 families including 4 grandchildren aged 3 and under, the property (Beatrice) we stayed in was ideal. With a very large lounge area and 4 well appointed ensuite bedrooms the space was ideal. The pool, the hot tub, large trampoline and well stocked fishing lakes proved a winner. Penny and Derek, the owners, were most welcoming and eager to make our stay as relaxing as possible, (PS loved Katie the dog). For a family holiday in the countryside on a farm this is an ideal location. You will need a Sat Nav or an OS map to find the farm easily and if coming from the North travel via Salisbury and ignore all other Sat Nav routes.  I understand that Brown signs are imminent so that would make it a lot easier.

The Porter family had a great time, we stayed in the Hayloft for 11 nights. Although the location is remote, there are some great family places to visit within a 30 miles radius.

On the two mornings it rained, the pool was the ideal retreat. At times we were the only family in the pool which was great :-) but it was never too busy. The accommodation was a very high standard. We are already planning a return visit......

Best day of our lives! We had our wedding this month at The Victorian Barn and it was a day we will remember for the rest of our lives for being so perfect. It was wonderful to have all our friends and family gathered in such an amazing venue. The food was great, the accommodation was clean and comfortable. The staff and the owner provided top class service and I would definitely highly recommend this venue for anyone planning a wedding in Dorset.

We stayed for a short week-end break in The Byre during November 2011. The Byre was warm and cosy and had everything we required. When we arrived the stars at night were fantastic and we couldn't stop gazing at them. The children loved the fishing, and spending time in the pool, hot tub and sauna and would like to have stayed longer. We checked out in the morning but were able to use all of the facilities for the rest of the day - bargain! Hope to return in the warmer weather when we can sit by the lakes and catch the fish. Not much luck this time but I have a lovely picture of a just under 20lb common carp caught by the fishers next to us on the middle lake on Sunday, 20th November. Thank you Penny for all your kindnesses and for making ours a very lovely stay. Looking forward to seeing you again!

What a find! I have returned from a fishing/ family holiday at the victorian barn. We had a brilliant time. I enjoyed fishing with my son while my daughter and wife enjoyed the pool which was almost next to our suite. The lakes were lovely and peaceful and we caught some big fish, which pleased my son. We have already booked for next year!

We spent New Year 2011 at The Victorian Barn. There were 23 of us and we had Byre, The Hayloft, Beatrice and The Granary. It was perfect for a large group as we all socialized and ate in Beatrice as Penny kindly gave us trestle tables to push together. We had a mixture of ages to there was something for everyone. The weather wasn't very good so the pool/hot tub and even the fishing lake kept kids, mums and dads happy. The accommodation was very spacious, clean and modern and Penny couldn't have been more friendly, helpful and accommodating. I would highly recommend the Victorian Barn.

We stayed at the Victorian Barn in mid April, with our 11month old daughter. The main attraction for staying at the Barn were the excellent onsite facilities, the swimming pool was heated and changing facilities accessible for a family. The facilites are well thought through and are excellently maintained. The barn is set in a beautiful countryside location and has breathtaking views of the landscape. We were impressed with the accomodation it has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. The owner, Penny was extremely welcoming and helpful, overall we would highly recommend staying at the Victorian Barn.

We stayed here with my young son (1 and 4 months) just recently. Before we set off the owners contacted us and offered us a free upgrade from the Byre to the Granary.

On arrival we were welcomed with spacious and clean accommodation. The rooms were large and we found the kitchen to have all you would expect in terms of facilities and utensils from a self catering establishment.

The location is beautiful and you can set off in all directions to attractions. The onsite gym and pool were appreciated, especially as the weather looked like it may be unkind, although this did not turn out to be the case.

We found the owners to be welcoming and helpful.

I loved the fishing lakes, (free to guests) where I caught several sizeable carp and was fortunate to also catch a very large carp in the silverfish lake, possibly 12 lb + I think it was maybe transferred there via the close by specimen lake. In my excitement I forgot to return it to its correct home!

We went to the Gaggle of Geese for a superb evening meal and there are many other good pubs close by.

We will be back.
