My husband and I stayed at The Victorian barn over Easter, it was our second visit to this beautiful place. This visit we stayed in the stable and the conservatory has the most gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. Penny was warm and welcoming as always, as was Katy one of the lovely farm dogs.

The accommodation is spotless and the grounds are very well kept. We made good use of the swimming pool, sauna and communal hot tub.

Free WiFi is a huge bonus, there is a fair usage policy in place but we stayed for a week, used the internet daily and didn't go over the allocated amount.

The Victorian barn is very relaxing, tranquil and a perfect base for exploring Dorset. We're already planning a further trip with our extended family staying in one of the larger properties.

This place really is a fantastic find and we cant wait to return.

Tucked Away In The Dorset Countryside

This high quality, self catering accommodation with good sized swimming pool, gym, sauna.

Perfect hideaway for a family break away from the chaos of life.

Country walks, cosy open fireside pub meals, beautiful sunsets, birdsong, playful spring lambs and calves with the biggest, brown eyes. The most beautiful scenic haven in the most beautiful county in England.

From Sarah, Paul & Hunter

Thank you once again Penny & Claire. Xx

A lovely TripAdvisor review from the guests who stayed last week-end

“Great location and facilities, perfect for family gathering”

We booked The Victorian Barn for a family gathering over a weekend and we stayed in Beatrice House and The Granary. When we arrived one of the rooms did not have the right configuration of beds, as we wanted four in one room, but the owners quickly changed it around for us.

Beatrice House (which I slept in) was spotlessly clean and the owners had put in extra tables and chairs for us all to eat together (as they knew we were large party). The living room / dinner was huge and it meant our party of 15 could spend our time together while preparing food etc.

The facilities were very good for the children in the party (and adults). The swimming pool and gym were well used. Games room could probably do with a few more games - but it was clean, tidy and warm. Beatrice House also had a dedicated hot tub for our use which was a little exposed to foot traffic - which I thought I would mind but was actually fine.

We would certainly recommend to others.

Another lovely review from the guests who stayed with us at The Victorian Barn in March

"Family Get-together

We had our family get together in Leopold House, 8 of us all over 65 years, the house was perfect with plenty of room for us all, the bedrooms were clean and all en-suite . The kitchen was huge with a long table so we could all sit round it for breakfast and chat. We loved the swimming pool that was kept at a warm temperature at all times and the men loved the games room with the football game and snooker table, sadly the weather was not kind to us, but it was March, there are plenty of walks and places to visit. We all loved it and would go there again for our meet up. The owners were friendly and helpful - we did have a power cut while we were there due to the high winds, but we were kept informed and it did not mar our break at all. A great place."

Room Tip: Leopold house has great views from lounge and front bedrooms back bedrooms have skylights

“Great venue for family birthday celebrations”

This was our 2nd trip to The Victorian Barn for a family weekend. The first was our mother's 75th and we returned with 18 members of the family for her 80th. If anything the Barn has improved. It is kept spotlessly clean and everything is well maintained.

We took the Helena suite and The Victoria Suite which are interlinked to give accommodation for 18. Every room is en suite, with 2 kitchens and lounges so despite all the people there is plenty of space to spread out. The area is very rural so you really feel you have got away from it all- great for country walking but its also within short drive to local villages and pubs.

We ordered a Chinese takeaway on the Saturday night and it was only a 20 minute drive to Sturminster Newton to collect it.

Absolutely brilliant place for a large family get together with a decent size swimming pool, small gym and hot tubs... plenty to keep everyone amused.

The Victoria Barn is probably one of the most beautiful but remote places we have ever stayed at. Blandford Forum is just under 3 hours from London, but it is the last hour of the drive that is through single lane, un-named country roads... all we can say is thank goodness for SatNavs and Google Maps! The nearest town is Sturminister Newton which has a minimarket, newsagent, bank and a selection of restaurants. I had remembered to do our shopping for the week on-line before we left so Monday morning everything delivered to our door which is something I would recommend to all.

The Victoria Barn consists of 8 properties all of which have newly been converted. The rooms are bright and spacious and have large kitchens and all rooms are en-suite, with either a shower or bathtub. Outside there"™s a playground with a swing, slide, climbing frame and best of all a supersized trampoline which the grown-ups and kids alike loved. The swimming pool was also clean and lovely and warm.

The Barn is set in a beautiful working beef farm with the Hills on one side, a forest on the other and 3 small fishing lakes. It truly is a peaceful place to wind away a week.  The outdoor play area is great with smaller slides, trampolines, and a push along car for toddlers.

Days out
Inevitably, when you stay somewhere so remote it seems that all days out were a minimum of 30 minutes drive away. Still we took a day trip to Swanage and rode on their steam train which went past the hugely impressive Corfe Castle.  Another day saw us spend the afternoon in Bournemouth which the kids loved and despite it being a little chilly, a round of yummy chips later we all were smiling. In hind sight, we should have got to Bournemouth earlier and visited the Aquarium which is located right by the sea. On our penultimate day, we drove to Lulworth Cove, which admittedly was one of the most beautiful sights I have seen in a long time. The tiny beach is all pebbles, but the views out to sea were stunning. As we all sat down to enjoy the sandwiches that the dads had gone to buy, the kids ran around and had fun rolling down the hill. We had hoped to stop by Lulworth Castle, which had an outdoor play area, but was closed to the public due to a wedding. Still it looked like a lovely place to spend an afternoon and kids under 4 are free. But, the best trip we took had to be when we went to East Farm in Winterborne Whitechurch, where we indulged in the best scones and homemade cakes.  The kids milkshake had to be the creamiest ever and in the warm sunshine this was a real gem and delight.  Even my 2 year old declared that he "˜really loved this tea-party"™. All in all, we had a wonderful week away.

The Victoria Barn was certainly a special place to visit and we had a lovely week away.

The Victorian Barn is an EXCEPTIONAL venue for a wedding. It is set in the stunning Dorset countryside with amazing accommodation for all the guests. It was really important for us to be able to have everyone stay over and make a full weekend of celebrations. I wanted everyone to be in their own groups and Penny was so helpful with this, changing our minds up to the day before where everyone should be located! We stayed the night after the wedding and I would recommend this to any Bride and Groom- we enjoyed our complimentary fizz and sweet treats after a dusk dip in the hot tub!

The best day of our lives, made so special by the team, I have no doubt we will be returning for many anniversaries in the future. Mr and Mrs Howorth xxx

A lovely review from last weekends guests. 13 - 15 November 2015 Thank you.

Hello Penny and Claire,

May I place on record our sincere thanks for the lovely weekend we spent at The Victorian Barn with our family to celebrate our golden Wedding.

The whole layout in combining the Helena House and the Victoria Suite were perfect for our needs, which with the use of the pool and facilities, and the lovely location, were thoroughly enjoyed by us all.

May I also ask you to pass on our sincere thanks to Heidi and her team of Hostaroast for their excellent service and meal which they provided.

We would have no hesitation in recommending either yourselves or Heidi and her team to anybody looking for excellent accommodation accompanied by superb catering facilities for that "special occasion" event.

Again our sincere and grateful thanks.

“Wedding - Ceremony, Wedding Breakfast & Evening Reception”
5 stars

We chose the Victorian Barn as the venue for our Wedding. They were able to host the Ceremony, Wedding Breakfast and Evening Reception. As they are set up as self catering accommodation, our guests didn't have very far to go at the end of the night either.
We had family travelling from long distance so this seemed like the perfect option.
With exclusive use of the venue, you are safe in the knowledge that your friends and family are secure. The venue location is quite remote, so tricky to find, and there is no phone signal in the Barn. Great superfast broadband for us and our guests.
It is advisable to provide your guests with detailed instructions on how to get to the venue.  Follow the brown Heritage signs from Sturminster Newton or SatNav works well.
Breakfast is provided as part of the room package, and we fed our guests for Wedding, but the only night not covered was the night before. So we travelled to the Green Man in Kings Stag - which we can also recommend.
We got married mid-September and were very lucky with the weather, which helped highlight the beauty of the Barn and the surrounding areas.
Penny and Claire were really helpful in the run up to the Wedding and on the day. I'm sure those guys were frantically running around in the background, getting things set up, but their 'management' was very subtle and everything just seemed to flow very smoothly.
Would highly recommend this venue for your Wedding.

All guests were very positive about the rooms - spacious, comfortable, so I can imagine that the accommodation would be very nice for holidays also.

Hi Penny and Claire,

We wanted to get in touch, now that we've had some time to relax, and thank you for everything you did for us in the lead up to and on the day of our wedding. So many of our guests complimented us on the venue and the barn definitely did us proud.

How amazing was the weather? We've just spent a week in North Devon and it's been equally gorgeous.

Who would have known a year ago when we picked the date that everything would work out so beautifully.

Thank you both again and hope we were good guests.

Kind regards
Suzie and Andy
