Comments about this property
As a last minute find we consider ourselves superbly lucky to have stumbled upon The Victorian Barn. Accommodation and facilities were of the highest quality; the kitchen well equipped; the beds and linen wonderfully comfortable; the addition of the pool, games room and play areas was the icing on the cake by ensuring we didn't have to hear the strains of "I'm bored"! We definitely hope to return one day. Thank you.
Tips for other travellers
Wished we taken swimming things to Lyme Regis.
"Lovely place to stay, very peaceful and a high standard"
We stayed here for a week in July and really enjoyed ourselves. Penny and Claire were welcoming, friendly and always available to help out. The owner's dogs often popped round to say hello but they were well behaved.
A lovely cake and some milk was provided on arrival so could have a cup of tea after a long drive there. We stayed in The Lodge which was at the far end of the accommodation, it had a big garden area and plenty of parking next door. The whole place was very clean, spacious and in an excellent condition. There was everything you needed in a self catering facility to make cooking easy.
We used the swimming pool almost every day and while it's not very deep it was great for doing lengths (get in there early before kids wake up!). The gym has lots of equipment in it too and was an added bonus for the more keen members of our family!
We had excellent free wifi in The Lodge. You won't get much of a phone signal because of the remote location but then it's nice to turn it off for a while and relax. There's a DVD player in the TV but I don't think we watched any TV all week, and that includes the kids!
We found a Tesco at Blandford Forum (about 20 minutes away) but equally you can arrange for supermarket home delivery if you want.
The great weather really made the holiday and the Victorian Barn was really picturesque and we'd certainly recommend it to people. There's not much to do in the immediate local area (unless you like fishing / walking) but it's a lovely place to stay and we had a great time.

"Stunning Wedding Location"
We have just had the most wonderful weekend at the Victorian Barn using it as the venue for my daughter's Wedding Reception. The location is so beautiful and tranquil nestling under Bulbarrow Hill and with the superb weather we could not have wished for a better venue. The Barn itself was great and looked wonderful with everything set for the Reception. The bonus was all the accommodation available for ourselves and our guests. The suites of rooms around the barn are very well equipped and comfortable and several of guests that stayed for the wedding are intending to come back for a longer stay. Penny and Claire are great and could not do enough to help us. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

"Large Clean accommodation with good views"
The Victorian Barn is a located in the depths of the Dorset country side . It is rural and remote and your own means of transport is essential. I stayed there with my family, including x2 small children.
The accommodation was spacious and clean. We made use of the onside pool, which is an excellent feature and Is something that is needed as a means to keep the children occupied. The hot-tub is a fun feature too.
No stand out negative points. Many positives such as the tranquility of the local area, pleasantness of the accommodation and onsite pool.

"Excellent Week in The Victorian Barn"
We had a wonderful week in the Victorian Barn . It is situated in very attractive surroundings in the middle of rolling hills with fine views in all directions. The Dorset coast is about 40 minutes drive away through quiet and very pretty roads and there are many other attractions near by.We stayed in The Byre which was very clean and bright and spacious with all the facilities we needed. The staff were extremely helpful. Having the swimming pool was a real advantage, especially during the wet periods whist waiting for the rain to clear away. We had a very comfortable and enjoyable week.
Room Tip: Rooms facing west have a sunny aspect , are bright and offer the chance to sit outside and enjoy the wonderful sunsets.

"Can't Wait to go Back"
Just got back from a wonderful 5 days in The Byre at the Victorian Barn. It was really great in every way - the setting, the welcome, a wonderfully warm pool, a good gym, excellent views and local walks, the games room, the hot tub. Our kids were so happy - and they fell in love with Katy the dog! Hope to come back and will recommend to others

"The Victoria Suite, The Albert Suite and Helena House"
Me and a group of friends stayed at the victorian barn for a weekend on the 7th march weekend. The whole experience was a amazing experience from the dining in the victoria suite lounge to the relaxing in the hot tub at any time of the day or late evening. The assistance from penny and co operation was excellent and made the break a much relaxed and stress free weekend. I would definitely recommend the victorian barn for a relaxing luxurious weekend away in the countryside.

The Victorian barn is breathtakingly stunning location especially for a wedding reception. When me and mum arrived on the Friday we were greeted by penny and Claire who were so smiley friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. They helped make the day just be so perfect and stress free and it was such an added bonus having my family and friends stay the Friday and Saturday night. We had such a wonderful time and when we got to our honeymoon suite and beautiful letter of congratulations and a complementary bottle of bubbly left in our fridge and if that wasn't enough they even cooked us breakfast and brought it to us. Even though we live in Dorset we would love to come back here it has so many special memories for us!!! Thank you so much penny and Claire
Abi and Lee Hitchings (Bride & Groom)
Married 21 June 2014
Set within a breathtakingly stunning location and overlooked by Bulbarrow, the Victorian Barn delivers on all levels. As mentioned the location itself is stunning, the apartments are luxurious, the leisure facilities and play and park areas ensure that all ages are catered for.
Using this as a Reception venue for our daughter's wedding added a certain beauty to our daughter and son-in-law's perfect day. All the guests were enchanted by the beauty of the place and one of the most breathtaking views was watching the sunset on both the Friday and Saturday night. Nothing was too much trouble for Penny and Clare and they were always on hand if needed.
I cannot praise the Victorian Barn highly enough, it's one of those places you just have to see and experience to understand what I'm saying.
Penny & Clare thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making the weekend and of course Abi & Lee's wedding day so perfect.

Post christmas Home away from home
Wow, wow & just one more wow. We (wife, 3 kids aged 11, 9 & 10months) had been in Chatham (Kent) from Bristol and had stayed in the Holiday Inn for Christmas whilst seeing family there. 5 days later we checked out and made a 4 hour trip to Dorset. From Holiday Inn to The Victorian Barn? Massive transformation to another level.
We arrived at The Victorian Barn at night, as we drove in, we all WOKE up from tiredness. The environment, the peace and fresh air "“ heaven on earth. When we opened the door of the cottage we entered into opulence. We entered into a well kept, maintained and updated house. Everything is exactly as the pictures on the website. How they maintain the cleanliness is beyond me. It"™s like the place is re-painted and re-beautified after every visit. Lol. It was all so new and fresh.
Next day we walked around the grounds, farms, lake and went to a local shop. The pool was heated. Sauna nice and clean. Changing rooms and lockers clean/available. Loads of parking spaces. Play area for kids or entire family outdoors.
All I can say is God bless my sister (Tola) for booking / organising our break and taking us to the unknown. We went by Faith not knowing what to expect. We encountered paradise. A place for healing. A place for reflection. A place to relax, rest and plan your future. Also a place to go for long, healthy walks and be active if you so desire. A place to bond with family.
The owners always seemed available. Their wisdom and spirit filled love was so obvious from miles away. Please let me know when you are on the stock market so I can buy some shares. Lol.
We are going back by His Grace. Blessings.

Worth the drive and Worth the weather, will do it again with or without the rain
I booked this place without having any clue of what to expect. It was a family (3 Families) get away for the first time and we made the trip on Saturday 28th Dec, it was a rainy day and the journey took much longer. After each family had gone through a 4 to 5 hrs (instead of 2 1/2hrs) trip to The Victorian Barn, we just wanted to get some rest. The minute we stepped into Beatrice House we loved it. We forgot about the hard journey and just enjoyed every thing about the place. I met the owners Penny and her husband, a very simple and charming couple, with a genuine and warm smile, that made one feel really welcome.
On the morning of the departure, Penny's husband (Dick or Rick......can't remember), asked if we had a nice time, and said hopefully the weather would be better the next time we returned.
At this point I should have said with or without the rain, we'll be back.
If you ever find yourself trapped indoors on holiday due to bad weather, if this is Beatrice House, in The Victorian Barn, in Dorset, then don't worry, you can still have a nice time away from home.

40th birthday at The Victorian Barn
We have just come back from a weekend spent at The Victorian Barn for my 40th. What an amazing time we had! We had Plumtree and Jasmine cottages as well as The Lodge, which was perfect for our big group of friends. Located deep in Dorset it is the perfect place for a special occasion/holiday. The accommodation is well appointed and the home made cakes on arrival was a lovely touch. Claire and Penny were very helpful with all our arrangements, including recommending the amazing chef, Nick Holt, to cater for one of our evenings. The pool and the hot tub were fantastic. What can be better than sitting in the tub under the stars!
All in all, we had a brilliant weekend. Looking forward to our next trip there!

Family Christmas Weekend
Back home from an amazing long weekend with the whole family(32). This is something we have done for many years and this weekend was definitely the best. The Victorian Barn is set in beautiful surroundings, with walks, bike riding, pubs and Restaurants all close by. We stayed in Helena House, Leopold House, The Byre, The Hayloft and The Victorian Suite. This was perfect for the large family that we are. Each family had their own house and enough space in each lounge to be able to meet up for drinks and presents. With many small children the park/play area and Swimming facilities offered us adults peace of mind and 5 minutes peace and quiet.
Penny & Claire were all very helpful and on hand for any questions we had. We all recommend staying at The Victorian Barn and we are already preparing for next year
Thank you for a wonderful family weekend.
Stayed with family November 2013.
A sense of solitude...even whilst becoming fit!
I went on a fitness camp booking with Hillmotts Fitness Retreats and stayed in a double room in Helena House, within The Victorian Barn. The house was lovely, with a large downstairs lounge. The upstairs had 4 bedrooms, each with an en-suite and TV. The rooms are lovely and modern, so I was very impressed!
It's a rural ride to get there in the dark, going up and down narrow country lanes. However, if you want to find some solitude or takes your family or friends to enjoy the true countryside of southern england, then The Victorian Barn offers it in tonnes.
There are a number of these houses and cottages on the property, all done to a good standard.
Facilities included a swimming pool which closed at 8pm most evenings an extension on the normal times. The gym, sauna and hot tub were also good additions.
There are a three lakes down a little lane from the barns, where you can go fishing.
For a week you can book a 4 bed house for a very reasonable price. Great bargain!
Overall, its such a serene place.

Barn there, done that, and done it well!
A group of friends (8 total) stayed in the Victoria Suite within The Victorian Barn for the October half term. As a few of them are teachers, we went in an attempt to get away from the hustle of tourists and families and just have some quiet time to relax and reflect, enjoy the local Dorset rural countryside and eat lots of cake.
The Victorian Barn was a great break away from it all, and was exactly what we were looking for from a holiday.
Everything was clean and well presented (it was freshly refurbished recently) and the whole place was very well organised. We brought our own food to cook, had plenty of space in the fridge/freezer and found everything we could possibly need for cooking, serving and eating in the kitchen. Totally stress-free.
The indoor pool was always clean and although shared between all the guests, we had it to ourselves most of the time. The hot tub is open 24 hours and we didn't see anybody else use it at all! Stargazing into the Dorset night sky with not a single sound around was fantastic.
Room-wise, they were all kings or twins, but there's loads of space and bathrooms and none of us felt a lack of privacy all week at all.
If you're looking for somewhere to retire to for a short break or week with friends (or family!), enjoy each other's company and cook food/drink wine/relax in a pool, this place fits the bill!
