"We stayed at the The Byre at The Victorian Barn for Easter week. The situation is wonderful in a huge valley with fine views over the Dorset hills. The rooms are in excellent condition, comfortably furnished, exceptionally clean and with all the equipment for a self catering week. The swimming pool was lovely and warm and an ideal facility when the weather looked dull.

We used the local convenience store as well as the Co-op at Sturminster Newton which is 4 miles away. We had a fresh cooked lunch at The Green Man at King Stag and noted they had a good evening menu, we also ate at The Crown in Ibberton, worth phoning to check in advance when they are open and serving.

The Victorian Barn is a great base for visiting places in the middle of Dorset. We particularly enjoyed the huge abbey churches at Milton Abbey and Sherbourne ( a delightful small town ) as well as Hardy’s Cottage and his house outside Dorchester. We looked at the Cerne Abbas giant and the pretty village of Cerne Abbas. The gardens of Kingston Maurward are very attractive, but probably at their best in the summer months. The coast is about 40 minutes drive away and is spectacular between Durdle Door and Lulworth. A walk along the coast at Studland is very rewarding and in the summer it must be a wonderful area for swimming.

The walk from the Barn up Bulbarrow Hill overlooking Woolland was wonderful with spectacular views over the middle of Dorset."
